This proposal was envisioned as a contemporary interpretation of a farmhouse, that both lets in the landscape while also creating a private and protected residence. Inspired by the clients’ former local vernacular, the project was conceived as a composition of barn volumes that interlock, shift and coalesce through the use of glass “gaskets”.
These gaskets link each respective space, letting in sunlight during the winter, and opening to let airflow in as a natural cooling feature during the summer.
